World Breastfeeding Celebration

August is World Breastfeeding Month. Monroe County WIC is celebrating breastfeeding by hosting a party in August for our breastfeeding families. Several displays with educational information featuring breastfeeding information will be featured throughout the community. Healthy Ohio Fitness Walk

The Healthy Ohio Fitness Walk was held on Wednesday, May 19, 2010. Dr. Jackson, Ohio Department of Health Director, challenged all Ohioans to collectively walk one hundred thousand miles on this day. Eighteen employees from the Monroe County Health Department and Job and Family Services participated in the one mile walk. The ultimate goal is to promote physical activity and educate all Ohioans about the importance of regular physical activity in improving overall health and wellness. There are alarming statistics concerning sedentary lifestyles and obesity, not only in Ohio, but nationwide. Walking is the one exercise that is completely aerobic. It helps condition the heart, large muscle groups and relieves stress. Each individual walked one mile to help achieve this goal.
